The British Forces lightweight thermal smock is only available in khaki to match with the MTP uniform, and was part of an operational kit issue from around the time of the late Afghanistan mission before it was wound up in 2021. The wind shirt is designed as a lightweight layer with a nylon ripstop outer layer and a full microfleece lining. It is pulled on over the head and has a quarter zip front, in the traditional smock style. The collar is also lined with microfleece and conceals an unlined lightweight hood. The back of the collar can be drawn tight to exclude draughts. The pockets on the smock are minimal in order to reduce weight, but include one large 'kangaroo' pouch on the front and two zip pockets on the hips. The smock also has side zips that additionally close with velcro at the bottom that allow any belt-worn gear to protrude without interference. Under the arms, there is a long ventilation zipper and the cuffs close with velcro. Sizes are M (170/90), L (180/100) and XL (190/110). The combination of windproof outer together with microfleece makes the smock an ideal combination for a lightweight emergency jacket in case of sudden change in normally moderate weather.
Available options are: M , L , XL .

The hood is concealed under the collar but can be drawn out quickly and pulled over the head.
The side zips open to give easy access to belt gear and the bottom of the jacket can be closed around the hips with velcro.
The back of the jacket with the side velcro closed around the hips to reduce draughts.
The jacket has three zip pockets.
The kangaroo pocket on the front is useful as a quick dump pocket or the whole jacket can be turned inside out and stuffed into this pocket to make a mini-pillow for carrying.
