A single inert cartridge comprising of an unused case and deactivated primer in .44 Russian which has been refitted with a lead round nose head. The lead head is more period authentic for turn of the century and cowboy ammunition. The .44 Russian cartridge followed from Smith and Wesson's .44 American cartridge which was relatively underpowered compared to its rivals. The .44 Russian cartridge was developed for the Imperial Russian military contract alongside a line of revolvers which were eventually adopted (and copied) by the Russians. Rival revolver manufacturers of the era also submitted revolvers chambered in .44 Russian for the military contract, such as Colt, and Merwin and Hulbert. The .44 Russian cartridge had performance statistics which are almost comparable to modern cartridges, and the .44 Special which superseded the .44 Russian was initially an attempt to replicate the performance of the .44 Russian using smokeless powder which came out at the beginning of the 1900s. The .44 Russian cartridge is shorter than the .44 Special. Revolver cylinders for the .44 Special can take .44 Russian, but not the other way around, unless they were post 1900s manufacture to accept both or reamed up. Revolvers in .44 Russian were in circulation at the turn of the century in the USA as well as in Europe and Russia. Heads are correctly fitted with a press and not hammered in place, so the round has a more authentic appearance over rounds where the heads have been inserted too deeply. Case necks have been crimped to hold the bullet head in place. Perfect for film, display, diorama or to add authenticity to a revolver or Wild West display. Can also be worn as fashion accessory. Cases are brass. Please note that all rounds have no propellant or live primers. This is an inert .44 Russian bullet.
