Another take on the popular 6.5 calibre, the 6.5 Creedmoor is a 2008 cartridge that is based on a .308 Winchester with much improved, flatter trajectory and is less affected by wind over distance than a .30 calibre bullet. The 6.5 Creedmoor round does not shoot at as high a velocity as the 260 Remington (another 6.5 calibre round), but is favoured for its performance at over 1000 yards. In 2017, US SOCOM conducted test trials of the 6.5 Creedmoor round as a long range round for precision marksmen, and it outperformed both the standard issue 7.62x51 NATO round and the .260 Remington round, with the added advantage that equipment designed to fit 7.62x51 rounds will fit the 6.5 Creedmoor as the size of the cartridge is similar. Subsequently, work to convert the NATO MK110A1 and Mk20 Sniper Support Rifles (SSR) began. In 2018, US SOCOM announced a roll out of the 6.5 Creedmoor in its long-range precision rifle, carbine and assault machine gun. Price is for one round only.
