The .416 Rigby cartridge was developed in 1911 to make use of the Magnum Mauser 98 rifle action which London gunmakers John Rigby and Co adapted to use a large .416 inch diameter bullet. The .416 Rigby was designed to emulate the performance of the big bore Nitro Express cartridges, but the difference was that the .416 Rigby was for use with a bolt action rifle instead of a breech-loading big bore gun. The .416 is a rimless cartridge and four of these can be loaded in to the magazine of a Magnum Mauser 98 repeating rifle. The tip is a heavy 400 grain round nose semi-jacketed soft point with a thicker copper jacket to cope with the high power. Price is for one round only. Rounds must travel with courier.
